Mamuju, 1 October 2026 – The prices of several essential commodities in Mamuju Regency increased again in September 2026. Statistics Indonesia (BPS) of Mamuju Regency recorded monthly inflation of 0.11 percent (month-to-month). The increase was reflected in the Consumer Price Index (CPI), which rose from 112.81 in August to 112.93 in September 2026. On a cumulative basis since the beginning of the year (year-to-date), Mamuju recorded inflation of 2.49 percent. Meanwhile, compared with September 2025, annual inflation (year-on-year) was recorded at 3.72 percent.

Bird’s Eye Chili Becomes the Largest Contributor. On a monthly basis, the increase in prices in September was primarily driven by the Food and Beverage Serving/Restaurant group, which recorded inflation of 1.94 percent and contributed 0.14 percentage points to overall inflation. The Housing, Water, Electricity, and Household Fuels group also experienced inflation of 0.15 percent, contributing 0.03 percentage points.

In terms of commodities, bird’s eye chili was the largest contributor to monthly inflation, with a contribution of 0.26 percentage points. Other commodities that also contributed to inflation included bananas, red chili, broiler chicken eggs, yellowtail scad, and fresh shrimp.

However, several commodities recorded price declines. Skipjack tuna contributed -0.20 percentage points to inflation, followed by scad mackerel (-0.17 percentage points) and milkfish (-0.05 percentage points). The decline in prices of these commodities helped moderate the overall inflation rate in Mamuju in September.

Annual Inflation Reaches 3.72 Percent. On an annual basis, Mamuju’s inflation in September 2026 reached 3.72 percent. Nearly all expenditure groups recorded inflation. The three groups with the largest contributions were Food, Beverages, and Tobacco, contributing 1.69 percentage points; Transport, contributing 0.47 percentage points; and Food and Beverage Serving/Restaurant, contributing 0.37 percentage points.

Commodities with the largest contributions to annual inflation included scad mackerel, bird’s eye chili, machine-made kretek cigarettes (SKM), skipjack tuna, air transportation, and mobile phones. Meanwhile, katamba fish, rice, and shallots were among the commodities that made negative contributions to annual inflation.

Inflation developments in September indicate that food price fluctuations remain an important factor in Mamuju’s inflation dynamics, with increases in the prices of chili and several other food commodities serving as the main drivers of monthly inflation. At the same time, declines in the prices of several fish commodities helped contain the overall increase in prices.
